Review Policy

Updated: Jul 24, 2023

Thank you for taking the time to read my review policy. I believe that your trust in my opinions should be earned, not guaranteed. I hope that the transparancy and parameters in which I share my opinions with you help you to feel that you are able to trust the information that I provide. If you have any further questions or concerns about anything listed here, please contact me. Just as I hope you trust me to provide you with quality content, I trust you to help me continue to do so!

Any commentary I make is strictly my opinion, and while I will never intentionally lie or withhold information, my opinion is not fact, and your trust in my opinions should always be backed up by your own research. Should I have a business relationship or affiliation with a product or company, I will disclose that both in this review policy and during the review in question when possible. I do not do "positive only" reviews. I also try not to do any overly negative reviews, and may choose not to comment on a particular product or service for this reason. Reviews are subject to change over time as the products and the environment they function in change as well.

Affiliate Links

Some links on my website are "affiliate links", which earn me a small commission on any sales using the link. This doesn't cost you money or sell your data, and it helps to pay for the costs of hosting this website and purchasing equipment like those mentioned below.

If you would like to further support my website and the information that I provide, consider donating or joining my Perch mailing list, where I answer any questions about the clarinet you think to ask as well as tons you haven't!

Sponsored Reviews

I want each and every recommendation that I make to feel trustworthy and sincere, and I feel that if I was to accept payment for positively reviewing products that I would diminish the credibility of that recommendation in the first place. Sure, I could make a lot of money if I did so, but if that was my primary goal I certainly wouldn't have gone into classical music in the 21st century.

I do not, and will not, accept payment for biased reviews. Simply put, I do not do biased reviews. I will accept products that I do not own in order to be able to review them, and I will accept unconditional payment for my time under the strict agreement that my feedback is independent of any influence by payment. In these cases, I will first share my feedback with the company to check for any oversights on my own part and to help their business provide something valuable to the clarinet community. Innovation and creativity help to maintain the musical traditions that we care about in a rapidly changing society. By both giving private feedback that may turn into unfiltered public reviews, I can better help ensure that the needs of the community are met. Any monitization from these interactions will be explicitly noted in each review, and will not alter the outcome of said review. Essentially, these interactions will be a chance for me to give feedback on a product or service to the company, and if the company is happy with my balanced and objective opinions on the product or service, I will publicly share my unedited review with you.
